FITC 2007 - Over and Out

As always, I have some ridiculous pictures up on my flickr account.
I'm back home from FITC in Toronto trying to get caught up on everything since time just seems to stall when you are away. There was some pretty fantastic presos at FITC this year - technically one of my faves was the one about Red5 with John and Chris - they showed some really cool stuff with various inputs - from the guitar hero styles to the wiimote drum playing. Not to be missed of course, was the Maeda presenation - a very relaxed and off the cuff presenter and it really made for a great closing to what was a very busy conference.

I'll be posting my files from my preso tonight, since the flaky internet connection at the conference meant downloading/uploading wasn't entirely pleasant. All files will be available at www.bitchwhocodes.com/fitc2007

As for my presentation - I think it went alright. It was a packed room ( well in all fairness I was in the smallest room, so does that mean much?), some people even sitting on the floor. I managed to swear a couple times in the first 5 mins and even slip in a "crap yer pants". But all in all, a few laughs were had, some information exchanged and I think it was good once I loosened up a bit. And of course, I spent a bit of time today fixing some stuff in my code samples before I post them - all I gotta say is don't code while on Nyquil. Really not a good idea. :) Do as I say...not as I do?

I'd like to thank everyone who attended my session - it was really a lot of fun, and just in general, thank FITC for having me. Its a conference I love, and to be able to present at it, is certainly an honor.

AS2 to AS3 without feeling like ya got kicked in the gnards

Yikes, that really should have been the title of my preso at FITC.
Well here goes nuttin' - I'm just loading up my nano, recharging my DS and trying to remember I should pack - before I head off to Toronto for this years FITC. I have spent the entire week battling sickness - the timing couldn't have been worse, but at least I started to feel somewhat human again yesterday.

Just putting the finishing touches on my preso - I had some brainstorm yesterday to build a mini apollo app to help illustrate my message - which is how to migrate to AS2 to AS3. It falls under technical which means, yes there will be code, but more of just me walking through some side by side comparisons of AS2 and AS3 to show how to "port" common tasks that designers and developers do like handle Stage resize, dynamically add items to the stage, etc.

Big shout out the peeps at IQ - they helped me create some great bumper style videos that are spread throughout my presentation - just because the topic isn't exactly the most thrilling, doesn't mean the presentation of it has to be droll too :) I'm on the last day - I think the 2:45 slot or what not - but I'll have everything posted for download, including that little Apollo app that lets ya walk through a variety of code samples.

Heh, don't be shy. Come and say hi :)

FITC 2007

Once again, the round up! Who's all planning on going? What sessions are you looking forward to going to? Personally, I'm most exicted about the sessions from Fry and Maeda. Maybe I'll take some time to write out a full " here's what I'm seeing at FITC and why" post. I'll be giving a session on AS2 to AS3 Migration, and altho the topic is admittedly kinda dry, I don't think my preso will be ; been working to make it as funny as it is informative. Lets see if I can pull it off - I think I'm at 2:45 on the last day :)
